Nitrite Inhibition of Bacterial Dinitrogen Fixation

چکیده
Bacterial Nitrogenase, Nitrite Inhibition, Dinitrogenase Reductase Dinitrogen fixation by crude extracts from Rhodopseudomonas palustris and Rhodomicrobium vannielii and by purified nitrogenase preparations from Azotobacter vinelandii and Clostridium pasteurianum is inhibited by nitrite, whereas in the same preparations nitrate is without effect. In Clostridium nitrite seems to interact with dinitrogenase reductase component of the bacterial ni trogenase complex.

Drivers of the dynamics of diazotrophs and denitrifiers in North Sea bottom waters and sediments
The fixation of dinitrogen (N2) and denitrification are two opposite processes in the nitrogen cycle. The former transfers atmospheric dinitrogen gas into bound nitrogen in the biosphere, while the latter returns this bound nitrogen back to atmospheric dinitrogen. It is unclear whether or not these processes are intimately connected in any microbial ecosystem or that they are spatially and/or t...

متن کاملEnrichment and molecular detection of denitrifying methanotrophic bacteria of the NC10 phylum.
Anaerobic methane oxidation coupled to denitrification was recently assigned to bacteria belonging to the uncultured phylum NC10. In this study, we incubated sediment from a eutrophic ditch harboring a diverse community of NC10 bacteria in a bioreactor with a constant supply of methane and nitrite. After 6 months, fluorescence in situ hybridization showed that NC10 bacteria dominated the result...
متن کاملComparison of denitrification by Pseudomonas stutzeri, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Paracoccus denitrificans.
A comparison was made of denitrification by Pseudomonas stutzeri, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Paracoccus denitrificans. Although all three organisms reduced nitrate to dinitrogen gas, they did so at different rates and accumulated different kinds and amounts of intermediates. Their rates of anaerobic growth on nitrate varied about 1.5-fold; concomitant gas production varied more than 8-fold. Ce...

Microbiologist, Pacific Southwest Forest and Range Experiment Station, Forest Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Riverside, Calif. Abstract: Presently available data indicate that biological dinitrogen fixation is responsible for the greatest proportion of nitrogen entering chaparral ecosystems. Dinitrogen fixation by the Rhizobium-legume symbioses is relatively unimportant in chaparral w...
